    LABOR/EMPLOYMENT LAW UPDATE – J. REED ROESLER

                 Developments impacting labor and employment laws continued apace in 2011 and portend more of the same in 2012.  Recent court decisions and regulatory changes affecting federal and state laws continue to challenge H.R. professionals called upon to manage the expectations of an increasingly knowledgeable workforce.  J. Reed Roesler will address these developments and offer his insights regarding the strategies H.R. professionals should consider in their wake.

      

    EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS/HEALTHCARE LAW UPDATE – DEREK A. SCHRYER

                 It has been nearly two years since the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law.  During the law's first year, employers that sponsor health care benefits were required to amend their plans to provide expanded dependent eligibility, to eliminate preexisting conditions for children, and in some cases, to drop cost sharing for preventive health services.  While the law's second year did not trigger other required benefit changes, 2012 will bring new changes.  This presentation will feature a general discussion on the pending Supreme Court case that challenges the constitutionality of the law, the new W-2 reporting requirements and the standardization of health care plan documents. Additionally, this presentation will include a general discussion on changes that go into effect in 2014, including the employer "pay or play" provision and the excise tax on so called “Cadillac plans,” which is set to go into effect in 2018.
