No Excuses: Every Organization Can be a Great Place to Work
Heart of Illinois SHRM Executive Series
    Jennifer Robin, Ph.D. |December 13, 2012

It’s not just happenstance that some workplaces are great ones.  Rather, creating a great workplace is a critical responsibility of every successful manager –at any level, in any company, in any industry.  There are a variety of reasons managers offer for being their workplace being anything but great – the lack of commitment and resources for such an effort, the push and pull of organizational demands, the type of industry or functional area in which they work, the complexity of the organization or other legacy issues, or perhaps the employees themselves.  In this session, learn about the excuses, but more importantly, why they just aren’t true.  We’ll discuss practices from managers and leaders who have overcome these and other challenges, and the mindsets that help them sustain their great workplace.  Participants will leave with a renewed commitment to moving from a good place to work to a great one, with some helpful tips for getting (re)started and continuing the journey.

Jennifer Robin is an author, speaker, educator, and advisor.  She has authored two books, A Life in Balance and most recently The Great Workplace with Michael Burchell.  She is an internationally recognized expert in great workplaces and is a sought after speaker and workshop facilitator. Jennifer is a faculty member in the Foster College of Business at Bradley University teaching in undergraduate, MBA, and executive programs in the areas of leadership, organizational culture, and human resources management. Jennifer also blogs at www.jenniferrobin.net and conducts research investigating the impact of culture on organizational performance.
