    Social media is not a fad. It is the way more and more people are interacting with others online. In the corporate world, social media allows companies to engage with both current and potential customers and employees in a way they have never been able to before.
    For human resource practitioners social media is going to play an increasing role in how they engage with employees and candidates. Progressive companies are already turning to social media to build a powerful presence and attract new talent.
    In this hour long presentation, Sabrina Baker and Susan Avello will discuss the basics of social media and how human resource professionals can begin to develop a strategic social media plan.

    • Attendees will understand the statitistics and basics around  major social media platforms and usage and why it is an important component of any human resource management strategy

    Speaker information:
    Susan Avello is a Social Media and Branding Strategist in Chicago. She shares her knowledge of Social Media in the Workplace, and the latest in Technology and Social Business over at HR Virtual Cafe blogSHRM WeKnowNext and Social Media Today. She is a part of the social press team for SHRM annual conference and IHRIM Technology Conference. She is social media chair for Illinois SHRM Stateconference and the recipient of 2011’s Most Influential Women in Business award by Chicago’s Daily Herald Business Ledger, the National Association of Women Business Owners and Women’s Innovation Network.
     
    Sabrina Baker, PHR is a Human Resource Consultant and Social Recruiter in Chicago. Through her business, Acacia HR Solutions, she helps companies raise the intellectual and reputational capital by helping them find and retain the best people.  She is a member of the Illinois State Council of SHRM board and serves as the annual conference chair. She is also a member of the SHRM press team for the SHRM annual conference.
     
    In 2012, Susan and Sabrina started Discovering Social in an effort to debunk and demystify social media for job seekers, human resource professionals and recruiters. Social media is not a fad and is something that many individuals have yet to embrace. It can be overwhelming at first and that is where Discovering Social comes in. Through webinars, resource material and events, Susan and Sabrina show not only why social media is important, but how to use it effectively.
