Succession Planning if often thought about when there is an immediate senior staffing need. Sometimes, it is a part of a strategic plan; which does not get implemented. Either way, if you wait until there is an immediate need, it is too late to start the process. This program looks at succession planning from two perspectives – the company needs and the employee needs.

In modern times, it is not enough to review succession planning on an annual or bi-annual basis. Rather, this needs to be a structured process which becomes ingrained in the culture of a company and reviewed at least quarterly, if not more frequently, to meet current and future talent needs. This system looks to the future needs of the organization and not the current.

While the organization is structuring its process, the employee has his/her obligations and responsibilities as well. In order to meet the current and future needs of the company and workforce, the employee needs to own their own development process, assisted by the company, to accelerate their learning and growth experiences. Using this process, the employee is more likely to meet the company where and then they are most needed.
