    Presentation:  Awakening Leadership

Speaker:  Colonel Toney Deane, United States Army (Retired)

Colonel Tony Deane is veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Desert Storm, Kosovo and the Cold War, has served in a number of leadership and senior training positions throughout his storied 28 year Army career. He has gone on to become a unique voice in National Security policy.  In 2006, Tony was commanding a tank battalion in Ramadi, Iraq at the height of the Iraq War. At the time, many considered the war lost, and Ramadi was the most dangerous city in Iraq. Deane not only built a team of Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and SEALs into a force that took the fight to Al Qaeda tactically, and fostered a relationship with a low-level Bedouin Sheik with a flair for the dramatic and a chrome plated Colt .45 pistol, building a strategic victory in the forming of the Al Anbar Awakening.

Colonel Deane chronicles the heroism of the troops he served alongside and the inner dealing with the tribal leaders in his book: Ramadi Declassified A Roadmap to Peace in the Most Dangerous City in Iraq, sharing insights into solving the most difficult of problems. Not only does Deane's riveting presentation put the audience on the front lines going door to door hunting terrorists, and in the tents drinking tea and deal making with Tribal leaders, it leaves provides practical leadership takeaways..
