    Program Content:

    The CDC reports in 2018 there were nearly 200 fatal overdoses due to opioids. This presentation will help explain what an opioid is, how it can be addictive, the scope of the problem across the country, how to spot and overdose and what to do about when it occurs.

    Speaker Sue Tisdale, Community Educator, HSC

    Sue is employed by HSC Peoria as a Community Educator, funded by a Drug Overdose Prevention Program grant (DOPP).  The grant focuses on substance abuse awareness, education and prevention, as well as training and distribution of Naloxone.  This grant covers 40 counties in Illinois, and they are now in their second year.  Sue has personal experience with substance abuse for over 13 years.  She has a non for profit group, Duneys Defense, that provides free substance abuse education, resources and prevention of Overdose, training and distribution of Naloxone since 2015.

    The meeting has been certified for the following:
